Lot Description
1917-D 50C Reverse MS65 NGC. The 1917-D Obverse Mintmark variety Walking Liberty half dollar saw only 765,400 examples minted, compared with nearly 2 million of the Reverse Mintmark type. Despite the higher mintage, however, the Reverse Mintmark variant is seldom seen in the Gem grade of the present coin, as fewer were saved in Mint State. Whispers of reddish-tan color deepen around the margins of this lustrous Walker, and an impressive strike leaves strong definition on the design elements, though Liberty's head is incomplete, as nearly always seen. A toning spot is noted on the lower-right part of the sun, as are three or four on the eagle's right (facing) leg. Census: 23 in 65 (1 in 65+), 4 finer (2/13).
