Lot Description
1918-S 50C MS65 NGC. A lovely ivory colored Gem with splashes of golden toning near the borders. The satiny surfaces have a nearly prooflike appearance. This is a sharply struck example with a fully outlined thumb, strong skirt details, and a majority of the head details visible. This example is clearly much finer than the usual poorly defined coin. Bruce Fox said it best: "Liberty's hand, leg, and the branches she holds tend to blend together as one entity. The same condition exists with the eagle's breast and leg feathers on the reverse. This coin is rarely found in fully struck Gem condition." This example ranks nearly at the top of the pile for this date, with only three finer examples certified by NGC.
