Lot Description
1921-D 50C MS63 NGC. The 1921-D has the lowest business strike mintage (208,000 pieces) in the Walking Liberty half dollar series. Bruce Fox writes in his Walking Liberty Half Dollars reference that: "1921 was a recession year and there was a large reduction in business activity due to the end of the war. There was little need for small denomination coinage and the mints concentrated on silver dollars. Few halves were saved in mint state." The silver-gray surfaces of this Select example display the satiny texture typical for the issue. The strike is relatively sharp, manifesting itself in partial delineation on Liberty's branch hand. While some minute marks on each side limit the grade, overall this is a nice key-date coin.
