Lot Description
1934-D 50C MS67 PCGS. This is one of the first members of the traditional "short set," those PDS pieces running from 1934-1947 that are theoretically much more completable than their earlier counterparts with lower mintages. For example, three mints produced more than 13 million Walking Liberty halves in 1934, compared to a single mint, San Francisco, making the entire total of 1.8 million pieces in 1933. The 1934-D is nonetheless conditionally quite a rare coin at the Superb Gem level, notwithstanding the mintage of 2.4 million examples. The present specimen is among only three submissions at that grade at PCGS, and none are finer (10/11). Thick mint luster envelops both sides of the coin, which shows untoned centers complementing a thin ring of amber-gold patina around each side.
