Lot Description
1934-S 50C MS66 NGC. The '34-S is the scarcest of the 1934 issues. Bruce Fox, in his The Complete Guide To Walking Liberty Half Dollars, notes that fully struck Gems are difficult to find, and that on average, strike is weaker on the reverse. The present example, while not fully struck, displays boldly impressed devices on both sides. Liberty's head detail is nicely defined, as is the left hand and thumb and adjacent oak and laurel branches. Likewise, the eagle's feathers show nice detail, including most of those on the left leg, that often show weakness on many examples. The relatively well preserved surfaces exhibit vibrant luster beneath varying shades of golden-orange color. From The Dr. Frank Lanza Collection of Walking Liberty Half Dollars.
