Lot Description
1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Three Leaves VF35 NGC. B-5, BB-27, R.1. Bowers-Borckardt Die State II. A bold strike provides significant detail on the major devices, and moderate wear is largely confined to the highest points, most notably to the middle of Liberty's head. Handsome light gold toning boosts this coin's undeniable visual appeal. This obverse variety is one of the most distinctive of this busy date, showing star 1 distant from the lowest curl and a raised diagonal bar slanting in the left field just above Liberty's upper curl. The reverse shows a pair of laurel berries lined up precisely below F in OF in the well-spaced legend. This coin saw relatively brief and problem-free circulation that gives it a dignified and pleasing overall appearance. An ideal specimen for any carefully chosen type or specialized collection early dollars, the present coin will reward careful examination.
