Lot Description
1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Two Leaves VF35 PCGS. B-1, BB-21, R.2. Star 1 barely touches the lowest curl and there are two berries inside the branch, near the eagle's tale, identifying the BB-21 variety. This variety is especially popular with early dollar collectors for its widespread availability and the often-preferred, two-leaf reverse, but also because it is an overdate variety with the remnants of an erroneous 1 beneath the 7 (which is visible with a glass on this example). Although moderately worn, the coin retains traces of original mint luster, with silver-gray surfaces and gold accents at the margins and pale-gold overtones in the fields. A few medium-sized, vertical scrapes in the right obverse field are the only marks of note. The rims are complete, unmarked, and well-denticled.
