Lot Description
1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Two Leaves. B-3, BB-11, R.5. VF20 NGC. Third curl wraps down to fourth; Eight berries on each branch. Reiver die state a. Bowers-Borckardt state I. This is the Reiver plate coin for the reverse of this variety. A fairly scarce variety that is believed to be the first die pairing used in 1795. The surfaces are excellent for the grade, with no adjustment marks or rim dings present. The color is an attractive light golden-grey spread evenly over the entire coin. Fully struck and a perfect example to represent this variety. Identifiable by a very minor nick nestled near the upper two inside points of the eleventh star. This is the usual die state, although two are known with a reverse die crack touching the lower serif of the C to the right wing of the eagle near his chest. This variety sometimes is found with a silver plug at the center, but this coin does not appear to have this feature. Ex: Kevin Lipton (June, 1984). Envelope Included.
