Lot Description
1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Two Leaves XF40 NGC. B-4, BB-14, R.3. Caramel-gold and ice-blue toning enrich this better variety Flowing Hair dollar. Marks are surprisingly few and inconsequential. The high points display moderate wear, but ample plumage detail is present, and luster peers from the legends, stars, and wreath. A minor edge imperfection, as made, is at 6 o'clock on the obverse and opposite at 12:30 on the reverse. A majority of the type is either B-5 or B-1, yet B-4 can often be acquired at only a modest premium. It is regarded as one of the first silver dollar die varieties coined in 1795, since it exhibits the Head of 1794 subtype, is known with a silver plug, and an example is known struck over a 1794 dollar.
