Lot Description
1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Three Leaves, Silver Plug -- Plugged -- NGC Details. VF. B-7, BB-18, R.3. Bowers Die State I. A silver plug, as made, is visible at the centers of both sides. The silver plug was added prior to the strike to raise the flan weight to within standard. Later, an attempted puncture was made on the lower reverse, beneath the right ribbon end. The attempted puncture was subsequently plugged, and dentils were crudely strengthened on the reverse between 3:30 and 7 o'clock. The silver-gray surfaces are moderately glossy. Marks are relatively minor though we note an obverse rim ding at 5:30. From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.
