Lot Description
1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Two Leaves, Silver Plug XF40 PCGS Secure. B-4, BB-14, R.3. It is thought the the 1795 B-4, BB-14 dollar was struck early in the year, with one known example struck over a 1794 silver dollar, and others known with Mint-inserted silver plugs, an experiment that only took place in 1794 and 1795. A complete outline of the silver plug is visible on the reverse of this example, with no evidence visible on the obverse. Careful study is necessary to view the plug, as a few random surface scratches are also visible at the same location. Both sides have delicate gold toning with light gray accents.
