Lot Description
1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Silver Plug VF30 PCGS. B-1, BB-21, R.2. The silver-plugged Flowing Hair dollars are Mint creations, the opposite of adjustment marks in that they were used to bring an underweight silver planchet up to the required standard. The B-1, BB-21 die marriage is one of several for which the silver plugs are known, although they are, amazingly, a fairly recent discovery (1993). Liberty's hair is in five flowing curls at the rear of the head, with an extra wispy one below the third heavy curl from the top. The Two Leaves reverse has a berry under the right side of the last A in AMERICA. This pinkish-gold VF30 example shows the extra plug plainly on both sides, with moderate wear expected for the grade but no singular abrasions and lots of eye appeal.
