Lot Description
1795 $1 Draped Bust, Centered XF45 PCGS. B-15, BB-52, R.2. Bowers-Borckardt Die State IV. Both Flowing Hair and Draped Bust silver dollars were struck in 1795, with two die varieties of the Draped Bust motif known. This coin represents the BB-52 variety, with the portrait centered and the highest wave of hair under the E in LIBERTY. The BB-52 is slightly more difficult to locate than the other variety, but both are important first-year type coins. Both obverse and reverse dies were only used to coin the BB-52 issue. The present coin is an attractive Choice XF specimen, with well-outlined hair and drapery. The lightly abraded surfaces are blanketed by pleasing shades of greenish-gold and lavender-gray toning. Eye appeal is quite strong. Population: 43 in 45, 84 finer (2/14).
