Lot Description
1795 $1 Draped Bust, Centered AU55 NGC. B-15, BB-52, R.2. Bowers-Borckardt Die State IV. The highest wave of hair is under the E in LIBERTY, identifying the obverse, although the well-centered bust is another obvious identifier. The reverse shows an olive leaf under the A of STATES. In this late die state, the considerable die lump in the rear of Liberty's hair has advanced further to develop a knifelike protrusion at the top. Most of the original mint luster remains on this delightful Choice AU example, a silver-white piece with tinges of champagne-pink. The surfaces show a few minor hairlines, and the reverse shows some crisscrossing adjustment marks in the center and near the rim. From The Christmas Lake Collection.
