Lot Description
1795 $1 Draped Bust, Centered AU53 NGC. B-15, BB-52, R.1. One of only two Small Eagle varieties from 1795, the B-15 variant is better centered than its B-14 counterpart and the high wave of Liberty's hair is positioned under the E of LIBERTY. This variety is usually encountered in VF grades and XF pieces are quite elusive with AU coins of considerably scarcity. This is an exceptionally pleasing coin that is perfectly centered on the obverse, but is a bit off center on the reverse with longer dentils on the right side. Sharply defined for the grade with only slight loss of detail from wear in the center of the eagle's breast. The pale gray surfaces show considerable golden toning around the devices with an occasional patch of blue. A few small field marks are present, but are entirely consistent with the grade. An excellent type coin for the collector who needs a Small Eagle '95 in AU.
