Lot Description
1796 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-61, B-4. Rarity-2. Bowers Die State I. Small Date, Large Letters. AU-50 (PCGS). Secure Holder. This impressive coin is a sharp early die state with the finer elements of the obverse portrait crisply detailed in the absence of die lapping. There is also very little wear in evidence, as the AU grade suggests, and even the central reverse is bold-to-sharp over the eagle's head and breast. Many devices are fully defined, in fact, the strike obviously well executed and also nicely centered on the planchet. Minimally marked, and essentially untoned, a bisecting streak of pale-copper iridescence on the reverse provides the only interruption to a silver-gray sheen. One of the nicest 1796 B-4 Dollars that this cataloger has seen in recent sales, this coin is sure to attract the attention of advanced collectors.
