1796 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-65, B-5. Rarity-4. Bowers Die State II. Large Date, Small Letters. VF-30 (NGC). An appealing mid-grade example of the conditionally challenging Draped Bust, Small Eagle type, this early Dollar is toned in mottled steel-gray, silver-gray and dove-gray patina. The coin is attractively original, an area of lighter toning on the reverse readily revealing shimmering satin luster at more direct angles. The obverse is more sharply defined than the reverse, but both reveal even distribution to the moderate wear that defines the grade. There are no abrasions of note.
