Lot Description
1797 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-71, B-3. Rarity-2. Bowers Die State III. Stars 10x6. AU-58 (PCGS). The PCGS insert incorrectly attributes this coin as an example of the Stars 9x7, Large Letters Guide Book variety. Very pretty toning to both sides, the peripheries are ringed in vivid electric-blue and orange-rose iridescence that frames lighter, golden-apricot centers. There is quite a bit of luster remaining, as perhaps one should expect given the assigned grade, and the devices are generally bold in the absence of all but light highpoint wear. Free of distracting abrasions, a few faint adjustment marks in the center of the obverse are as struck. Conditionally scarce for the short-lived Draped Bust, Small Eagle Silver Dollar type of 1795-1798.
