1798 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. Small Eagle. BB-81, B-2. Rarity-2. Bowers Die State II. 15 Stars. VF-30 (NGC). OH. The obverse star count is diagnostic of the variety. An attractively original example of this scarce early Dollar issue, both sides exhibit warm, even, slate-gray patina. Moderate highpoint wear and some characteristic softness to the strike has resulted in a few areas of little-to-no-detail in the centers, but the definition does sharpen appreciably toward the borders. Well centered on the planchet, and free of mentionable blemishes apart from an area of old, extremely light tooling at the lower-reverse border that is hardly worthy of note. A pleasing example that would fit nicely into a circulated type set.
