Lot Description
1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9 XF40 PCGS. B-24, BB-124, R.2. Die State III. A scarce die state for this common early dollar variety. The first two stars at lower left point to the center of the denticles, and the reverse shows the well-known Blundered Stars pattern, in which the stars are placed too high and in a line pattern. The upper curl is weak, and only part of a leaf shows by the C in AMERICA. The clouds behind the eagle's head are weak, and the crack is beginning to form from the rim to star 12, and thence inward a short way into the field. Both sides offer light-gray surfaces with some faint luster remaining. A prime opportunity for the die state specialist to obtain a nice, problem-free XF example.
