Lot Description
1802 $1 Narrow Date AU55 PCGS. B-6, BB-241, R.1. Bowers-Borckardt Die State III, the most commonly seen state of the most common variety of 1802 Bust dollar. Yet at the AU55 level, this supposedly "common" version proves anything but: PCGS has graded just two examples at the AU55 level and only five coins finer (7/11). This is a striking example, softly frosted under a light layer of patina that shifts from gold-gray to pale silver. The obverse presents as smooth with a single brown spot to the right of Liberty's nose, though the upper right reverse shows a mix of adjustment marks, planchet lamination, and possibly a few post-striking abrasions.
