Lot Description
1802 $1 Narrow Date MS61 NGC. B-6, BB-241, R.1. Bowers Die State III with evidence of die lapping especially visible in the lower left hair curls. The 1802 B-6 is considered a plentiful R.1 die variety, with a surviving population that falls in the range of 1,500 to 2,700 pieces. The estimated population for all six other varieties of 1802, including Overdates and Normal Dates, falls in the range of 1,100 to 2,000. Perhaps as many as 60 Mint State examples of B-6 survive, compared to only about a dozen similar examples of all other varieties. This example has full satin luster with light gray surfaces that show no toning on either side. There are only a few trivial surface marks of note. Census: 6 in 61, 41 finer (7/13).
