Lot Description
1802 $1 Narrow Date MS62 NGC. B-6, BB-241. R.2. Die State I. Here is a Mint State example of what Milferd H. Bolender called the "Close Perfect Date" in his The United States Early Silver Dollars from 1794 to 1803 (first published in 1950). The obverse die was used only to strike this variety. Noting the right foot of the T in LIBERTY is missing will quickly identify this die marriage. This die variety comes in all grades, up to and including MS65. This specimen is struck from an early die state, called scarce in the Bowers reference. This specimen has lustrous silver surfaces, with some minor surface marks and scratches, which are consistent with the grade. Ex: Pre-Long Beach Sale (Superior, 9/99), lot 1476; unknown intermediary or intermediaries; The Lexington Collection (Bowers and Merena, 1/94), lot 683.
