Lot Description
1802/1 $1 Wide Overdate. B-9, BB-235, R.4. VF25 NGC. Overdate, die flaw between B and curl point; Outer arrow point below left upright of N. Reiver die state b. Bowers-Borckardt die state II. This is the Reiver plate coin for the obverse of this variety in his book. Bright and untoned save for a hint of peripheral gold. A middle to late die state with the obverse cracked to Liberty's bust, plus a faint crack through the 802 of the date, and another crack from the rim through star twelve. Identifiable by a minor dull scratch in the small field between the arrow points and the wing above touching the shield. A well struck coin that should suit most collectors, and this variety has remained one of the scarcer die pairings of the year since its discovery just prior to the publication of Bolender's 1950 Early dollar book. Ex: Paramount (July, 1973). Envelope Included.
