Vivid cobalt-blue, reddish-orange and copper-rose iridescence is splashed about the peripheries on both sides. The centers are close to brilliance, and a semi-prooflike finish is so bright that it shines forth powerfully from all areas as the coin rotates under a light. Well struck for the issue, with only the expected scuffiness for a BU Silver Dollar of this type. Rare in Mint State, the 1844 is actually a key-date Seated Dollar in all grades due to a limited mintage of just 20,000 pieces. All-known business strikes are examples of a Doubled Die Obverse with four stripes to each vertical element in the shield as opposed to the normal three.
