Lot Description
1854 $1 AU50 NGC. Considerably rarer than the 1853, the 1854 probably saw widespread exportation at the time of issue. Today, survivors are scarce to rare in all grades, and Bowers (1993) believes that the 1854 may be the rarest P-mint Seated dollar after the 1851 and 1852. This bold-looking example retains nearly complete striking definition with an essentially brilliant appearance overall. A lateral swath of planchet roughness is seen from the eagle's shield to the reverse rim, mentioned as a future pedigree identifier.
