1857 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. EF-45 (PCGS). Infrequently offered in any grade, the 1857 Seated dollar was widely exported in the years prior to the introduction of the trade dollar. As such, many of the the 94,000 pieces produced were melted or otherwise lost overseas, the handful of survivors representing the (very) small percentage of the mintage that remained stateside as part of bank reserves. This deeply toned, steel gray and copper-gray example is suitably bold despite overall light wear and characteristic (for the issue) softness of strike. There are no outwardly distracting or otherwise significant abrasions.
