1857 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. MS-63 (NGC). Steel-gray and lilac patina on both sides with flashes of lighter silver in the protected areas. The toning is uniform on both sides and pleasing. Boldly struck too, as Liberty's head and dress folds are all decent for this date, while the eagle shows trace softness on his neck and wings. Strong planchet roller lines are present and these were caused when the original silver ingot was rolled out to make planchets. Mintage of 94,490 pieces in all, and perhaps a few hundred exist today in all grades.
