Lot Description
This desirable 1859-S dollar has medium golden-gray surfaces with some deeper highlights in the protected areas. Only faintly marked despite its lengthy stay in circulation. It is one of just 20,000 pieces struck during the first year of the denomination from the San Francisco Mint. The repunching  plainest at the bottoms of the 1 and 8. These were struck to the limited extent of just 20,000 pieces at the request of San Francisco merchants who desired dollar coins for export to China.
