Thanks to the discovery of a large number of examples during the Treasury Department releases of the early-to-mid 1960s, the 1859-O is one of the most plentiful No Motto Seated Dollars in Mint State. The vast majority of survivors are heavily abraded and confined to the various BU grades, however, and the issue remains rare at and above the MS-64 level. Sharply struck apart from the often-seen softness of detail to Liberty's head and a few of the obverse stars, this piece is also fully original with mottled pale-silver, champagne-apricot, lavender-blue and olive-russet iridescence. Neither the toning nor a few wispy abrasions prevent us from appreciating a semi-to-fully prooflike finish from the dies. Impressive pedigree!
