Lot Description
1871-CC $1 AU55 PCGS. This is a problem-free example with no abrasions that are out of context with the AU55 level of preservation. A warm blanket of golden-gray patina blankets both sides, and every feature is boldly defined with only the lightest rub across the highpoints. Considerable satin luster remains, with a modest, yet pleasing glow in the fields. The 1871-CC boasts the lowest mintage (1,376 pieces) among CC-mint Seated Dollars. Only 85-125 pieces are believed extant in all grades, and these coins are rarer than survivors from the 1870-CC and 1872-CC deliveries. NGC and PCGS have seen a mere two coins in Mint State, both of which grade MS63 (5/01). One, if not both of these entries may represent the Norweb specimen, which Bowers (1993) describes as an MS63 coin. A significant Silver Dollar rarity from both absolute and condition standpoints. From the Richard Genaitis Collection.
