Lot Description
1871-CC $1 AU55 NGC. The 1871-CC Seated dollar was the second-year issue from the Carson City Mint, produced in a tiny quantity of only 1,376 pieces, about one-tenth that of the first-year 1870-CC, at 11,758 coins. The 1871-CC is the lowest-mintage issue of all Carson City Seated dollars, although the 1873-CC is the rarest. The typical example of the 1871-CC is apt to grade only Very Fine or so, but collectors eagerly pursue any offerings. This Choice AU specimen displays bright fields on both side with light toning that deepens slightly around the margins, gray with golden device outlines. Numerous small handling marks in the fields are in concert with the grade and undistracting, in any case. Census: 5 in 55, 11 finer (2/12).
