Lot Description
1872-CC $1 AU50 NGC. Like other Carson City dollars, the 1872-CC was minted in small numbers (3,150 business strikes). David Bowers (1993) believes that most of these circulated after 1873, when their intrinsic value dropped below face value. Rusty Goe (2003) suggested that these coins had "a target destination" and that they were not stockpiled at the time of issue. This AU specimen displays bright untoned surfaces that show just a few minor contact marks. The design elements are generally well defined, though softness is visible in some of the star centers and in the hair atop Liberty's head.
