1865 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar. Proof-64 (NGC). A satiny-white coin with a blush of faint gold appearing in areas. Strong contrast but apparently not quite enough for the Cameo designation, but this one must have been close. The fields and devices show shallow hairlines when closely examined, present on even Gem Proofs of this series, as even the most gentle handling imparts these natural features of examination. Mintage for Proofs in 1865 was a mere 500 pieces, and any coin that approaches the Gem level with this much eye appeal is a rarity indeed. As impressive as it is desirable.
