Lot Description
1878-CC $1 MS67 PCGS. The 1878-CC is the first Morgan Dollar produced at the Carson City Mint. Although more examples were produced (2.2 million coins), the '78-CC is more difficult to locate as a Gem than the 1882-CC, 1883-CC, and 1884-CC. As a Superb Gem, the 1878-CC is rare, and this is the finest example that we have offered in recent memory. The surfaces are fully lustrous with a richly frosted texture and untoned centers that glow within beautiful orange-gold peripheral toning. The eye appeal benefits even further from a strike that is complete in virtually all areas. NGC and PCGS combined have seen just four coins in MS67, and neither reports a single example finer (1/02).
