Lot Description
1879-CC $1 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. Normal Mintmark. The 1879-CC is the second-rarest Morgan dollar from the Carson City Mint after the 1889-CC, with a low reported mintage of 756,000 pieces. Near-Gems can be acquired with relatively little difficulty though Gems are much more challenging. This MS64+ example is essentially color free, and the partially prooflike fields offer some mild contrast with the satiny devices. We need to mention, however, that this prooflikeness is somewhat hazy, as often seen, and not deeply mirrorlike. The design features are well-impressed, including fairly strong definition in the hair over Liberty's ear and on the eagle's breast feathers. A few minor grazes prevent full Gem status.
