Lot Description
1880-O Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-65 (NGC). Tied for the finest seen of this scarce date and mint, and a seldom offered coin at the Gem level. In fact, a mere 27 have been certified this high by NGC with an additional single coin showing Prooflike reflectivity--no other Gems or finer coins are noted in their Census. Fully lustrous and light silver-gray with a patina indicative of long envelope storage, the rims show moderate russet-gold on both sides. The strike is average with some central softness, always seen on this particular New Orleans issue on Liberty's curls over her ear as well as the eagle's breast feathers. For the collector seeking a truly special and exciting example of this particular date and mint, the present coin is certain to please. Unsurpassed quality and with the added bonus of attractive toning, thus a perfect choice for any advanced collection of Morgan dollars.
