Lot Description
1880-O $1 8/7 Ear MS65 PCGS. VAM-6A. A Top 100 Variety. Micro O. An "Elite Clashed Dollar" variety as listed at VAMworld.com. An ear from the 7 under the second 8 remains at the upper left curve of that 8, although no other remnants of the 7 are visible. This piece has heavy die clashing on both sides, as well as the diagnostic die gouge through the berry below the N in UNITED. Silver dollar specialist Mark Kimpton suggests that only one-third of all VAM-6A dollars show the die clashing of this specimen. This brilliant and highly lustrous Gem is possibly the finest known example of the VAM-6A. PCGS has never certified an attributed example of VAM-6A higher than MS64, and NGC has only certified one example of that variety in MS65 with none finer. This frosty specimen has delicate golden peripheries on each side with exceptional eye appeal. Note: There is no variety identification on the PCGS holder.
