Lot Description
1882-S $1 MS68 S NGC. Some Morgan dollar issues fail to immediately excite the average numismatist because of their easy availability, especially since the great Treasury releases of 1962 to 1964, when many scarce-to-rare issues were rendered commonplace. The '82-S is a relatively common issue that has been certified by the tens of thousands in lower Mint State grades. At MS68, however, examples are far from easy to find; and with the coveted "Star" designation from NGC (an indication of exceptional eye appeal), there are a mere seven coins certified with none finer, as of (4/12). This sharply struck piece displays ample luster and visually captivating coloration that includes deep shades of lilac, red-gold, and cobalt-blue across the obverse, and similar hues near the reverse periphery. The surfaces are exquisitely preserved and nearly pristine. A beautiful and technically impressive coin from the San Francisco Mint. Ex: Oxford Collection (Heritage, 3/2008), lot 970.
