The 1884-S is one of the key Morgan dollar issues in Mint State, including at the MS-62 level as offered here. The vast majority of those in existence show wear, sometimes extreme. The attractive light silver toning on the offered coin features a blush of pale blue and golden iridescence on both sides. The strike is sharper than average with most of Liberty's curls well defined over her ear and the feathers show full separation on the reverse. The surfaces are excellent too, as there are few signs of bag handling when closely examined. For some reason virtually the entire issue entered circulation. While high circulated grade examples are available, true Mint State coins are generally not. As reported below in the NGC Census data, the number that grade this high is relatively low in relation to the immense popularity of the Morgan dollar series.
