1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-67 (NGC). An exceptionally frosty and equally lustrous Gem with a bold strike and strong cartwheel activity. One of 228,000 examples of the date struck, the lowest production run of any Carson City date in the Morgan dollar series. Fortunately for today's collecting community, bag quantities of the date came to light in the early 1960s during the Treasury releases of Morgan dollars, and the date is no longer the great rarity it once was in Mint State. However, we note just seven examples of the date have been accorded finer grades than the present beauty by NGC, a fact worth remembering if you are seeking the finest available specimen of the date—the few pieces with finer grades are probably locked away in serious Morgan dollar collections.
