Lot Description
1885-CC $1 MS67 NGC. Smoothly reflective and highly lustrous, this low-mintage Carson City date had a production of just 228,000 pieces. It is one of the unusual quirks in numismatics that virtually none of the mintage circulated to any extent, and the 1885-CC date is the rarest Morgan in worn condition. Uncirculated examples are common until the highest Mint State levels are achieved, such as this vibrant, silver-white dollar. A tiny bit of blending in the strands above the ear prevent a full strike designation, but the coin is extremely bold everywhere else and pristine save for a few tiny, insignificant marks. For variety enthusiasts, a dash under the second 8 below the date is easily seen. Census: 84 in 67 (5 in 67 S), 5 finer (3/14). From the M L Moser Collection, #1 NGC Morgan Dollar Registry Set.
