Lot Description
1886-O $1 MS64 PCGS. For a date with over 10 million coins minted, the 1886-O is an important rarity in high grades and virtually non-existent in Gem. Prodigious quantities of the date must have been melted under the Pittman Act. In Choice grades the date is valued according to the strength of its strike and eye appeal. This example has frosty brilliance with good luster. The strike is sharp for the date, with slight softness on the hair over the ear and on the eagle's breast. Scattered abrasions are present but to no greater effect than expected for its MS64 designation. Only three specimens are graded finer, all by PCGS (12/13). From The Deer Lake Collection.
