Lot Description
1887 $1 MS68 PCGS. In order to understand why this coin is the recipient of such a superior grade designation, it is instructive to closely examine the piece using a magnifier. Immediately apparent is the fully rounded cheek of Liberty, which is smooth and seemingly pristine. Most Morgan dollar specialists will readily acknowledge the rarity of this occurrence on a business strike of virtually any date or mintmark. Next, the razor-sharp striking details should be appreciated, on obverse and reverse alike, where no feature of the great design, however minute, has been left unfinished. It is also tied, with just one other coin, as the highest-graded 1887 dollar at PCGS and NGC combined, and, not surprisingly, there are none finer at either service. Population: 1 in 68, 0 finer (10/05). From The Jack Lee Collection, III
