Lot Description
1887-S $1 MS67 NGC. VAM-2. Ex: Eliasberg. A Top 100 Variety. The boldness of the doubled mintmark makes this variety numismatically interesting and popular with variety collectors, but the overall Superb Gem appearance of this untoned, brilliant-white dollar will be of the greatest interest to any advanced collector of Morgan dollars. Dazzling, cartwheel luster and incredible, silver surfaces highlight the eye appeal of this Registry Set caliber coin. The fact that this coin possesses the distinguished Eliasberg provenance is equally important. The 1887-S is often found with central weakness, but this example is boldly struck with only minor blending of the hair strands above Liberty's ear. The eagle is sharp from every aspect. The fields display a combination of brilliance and reflectiveness that provide a double dose of lustrous impact. Only delicate abrasions are visible with a glass. PCGS and NGC have each certified one coin in MS67, with none finer (3/14). Ex: Eliasberg II (Bowers and Merena, 4/1997), lot 2275. From the M L Moser Collection, #1 NGC Morgan Dollar Registry Set.
