Lot Description
1889-CC $1 MS62 NGC. The 1889-CC is widely recognized as the rarest Morgan dollar from the Carson City Mint, and it ranks among the key issues of the entire Morgan series from 1878 to 1921. The mintage of 350,000 coins is the seventh lowest mintage of any issue, and most of those coins entered circulation, unlike many other issues such as the 1885-CC with a mintage of 228,000 coins. Most of the 1885-CC coins remained in Mint and Treasury vaults until their release in the 1960s and 1970s. This wonderful Mint State piece has fully brilliant and satiny surfaces with reflective fields, especially on the obverse. A hint of peripheral gold toning is present, especially on the reverse. The strike is bold and the surfaces are exceptional for the grade. This is a splendid example for the connoisseur.
