Lot Description
1889-CC $1 AU58 NGC. The irrelevant mintage of the 1889-CC is given as 350,000 pieces, but it appears that most were melted later, either at Carson City or perhaps in the Pittman Act furnaces. What is highly relevant today, however, is the popularity of the issue with legions of Morgan dollar collectors, as the foremost and undisputed key to the Carson City series. Low-grade pieces abound, along with some remarkable high-grade Mint State specimens, including Prooflike or even Deep Mirror Prooflike examples. But problem-free pieces in the higher circulated grades can prove quite a challenge for budget-minded series fans. The present coin is an attractive near-Mint specimen with just a touch of wear on the high points of the sharply detailed design elements. The lightly marked surfaces show a combination of satiny mint luster and prooflike reflectivity, with exceptional eye appeal for the grade. From The Teich Family Collection.
