Lot Description
1890 $1 MS66 NGC. In his Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars, Q. David Bowers is critical of the 1890 dollar: {blockquote}"Striking ... is not often seen sharp. The typical 1890 is average or below average, with flatness over the ear. As a rule of thumb, the luster on the 1890 is rather dull, often grainy, as dies seem to have been used for a long time."{/blockquote} In the case of this Premium Gem, however, worn dies imparted frosty luster. The central definition, while not crisp, is more than acceptable, and ample gold-orange and silver luster characterizes the centers. Small crescents of blue toning are present along parts of the borders. Census: 4 in 66, 0 finer (5/11).
