Lot Description
1892 $1 MS66 NGC. VAM-3. The mintage of the 1892 is relatively low for a Philadelphia issue. Just above 1 million pieces were struck. While this production is more than the 1893 through 1895 rarities, in addition to the well-saved 1899, most Philadelphia issues have mintages in the millions. This includes the conditionally rare 1901. The 1892 is available through the MS62 grade, but Gems are very scarce, and at the MS66 level, NGC has certified only the present piece, with none finer (as of 6/06). The present remarkable Premium Gem fully merits its lofty numerical assessment, since even the cheek lacks relevant contact. The strike is penetrating, luster is comprehensive, and the golden-brown and dove-gray toning is clearly original. The upper reverse legends are strongly die doubled. A prize for the collector who only settle for the best. From The Belle Glade Collection.
