This famous San Francisco Mint Morgan dollar issue is represented here by a rich champagne-gold specimen that displays lively underlying luster. Just 1.2 million examples of the date were struck and much of that mintage saw moderate to heavy circulation, with specimens today usually seen in VF and EF. Indeed, in the Red Book, the value of an EF 1892-S dollar increases nearly tenfold when the grade rises to AU. In the Whitman book on the series by Dave Bowers, the author notes: "Today, most collectors will opt for an inexpensive VF or an affordable EF, the 1892-S often being one of the few Morgan dollars in a set that is not Mint State." Choice for the grade.
